You would kinda think that if you book your wedding in the middle of summer you would get sunshine….or at least the sun peeking out from behind some clouds, or even just cloudy but warm weather. Well, we live in Vancouver, and it’s a rain forest, and….anything seems to go here these days, weather wise. So after my August 23rd wedding where we were on the beach with sunshine and blue skies, I was a little in denial for the Weather Network’s forecast of 100% rain for Sunday, but still prepared for it in the back of my mind. And sure enough I woke up to another summer day that looked like it had been shipped, Express Service (of course), right out of November.
OK…so I know you are all dying to see Witty and Udo’s pics, but before I put them up I am going to tell you why it is lucky to have rain on your wedding day. Brides think that is something that Photographers tell them to make them feel better, but there is actually a bit of interesting history behind it all.
Back in the old days where getting married was referred to as “Tying the Knot” the superstition went that if it rained on your wedding day it was lucky because a wet knot was harder to undo than a dry one. Hence your marriage would be stronger and less likely to come undone. So, Witty and Udo…with the amount it rained on your wedding day, looks like your marriage is going to last into eternity!
And it’s true, Photographers do like rainy or cloudy days since light is more even and diffused and easier to work with at any angle.
Having worked as a Wedding Planner herself, Witty brought in an all star line up of vendors to ensure her day went beautifully: Brent Sheppard performed the ceremony at the Celebration Pavillion in Queen Elizabeth Gardens, Rob and Andrea from Lotus Events were on hand to ensure everything ran smoothly, A Stylish Arrival drove Witty to the ceremony and then the bridal party on to photo locations and up to Grouse Mountain for the reception and Jeanette from DeLovely created the fabulous bouquets and reception decor.
After dinner Witty changed into a traditional Cheongsam in honour of her heritage. This was the dress that her Mum wore for her wedding.
And now, without further delay…Witty and Udo’s preview!
